Chicago’s amusement tax is already the highest in the nation at 12%, well ahead of other large cities, many of which have no amusement tax at all. Concerts, theater productions and other events can leave — and already have.
A higher amusement tax would endanger Chicago’s concert, festival, live theater and sports economies – all of which bring money and jobs to Chicago: restaurants, hotels, small businesses, retail establishments, transportation entities, organized labor, vendors and suppliers and the convention and visitor industries.
There is nothing “amusing” about regressive taxes that already jeopardize one of Chicago’s most viable industries and the livelihoods of thousands of Chicagoans.
We are urging members of the City Council: Don’t tax Chicagoans out of their jobs.
